A community-led initiative for AI that serves people
Octopus Foundation advances community, accessibility, education and responsible-AI initiatives so that the benefits of AI reach more people, more fairly.
Why the Foundation exists
Much of the value created by AI flows to those who already have resources and access. We exist to widen that circle — to make sure AI also expands people's ability to communicate, participate, learn and live with dignity. We do this by bringing communities and technology together on practical, public-benefit work.
Our place in the Octopus ecosystem
Octopus Foundation is the community, accessibility, education and AI-for-good arm of the wider Octopus ecosystem — and it is designed to be institutionally independent. Commercial entities in the ecosystem may provide technology, funding or operational support under documented, arm's-length agreements, but sharing a name, founders or technology gives no entity ownership or control of the Foundation.
One ecosystem, three distinct missions
- What we build
Octopus Core builds and operates the technology — governable, sovereign AI infrastructure, commercial execution and enterprise delivery. Commercial products, revenue and customer contracts sit with Core, not with the Foundation.
- Why it matters
Octopus Foundation ensures the technology serves people and communities — public benefit, accessibility, education, participation and human wellbeing.
- What we learn
Octopus Research Institute investigates, tests and advances the underlying knowledge — applied and responsible research, evaluation, benchmarks and publications.
The three collaborate, but the boundaries stay visible: the Foundation brings community needs and participation, the Research Institute brings formal research capability, and Core contributes infrastructure and engineering — all under transparent, documented agreements.
Independence commitments
- A separate board, records, budgets and bank accounts — the Foundation is not a subsidiary, agent or nominee of any commercial entity.
- No commercial affiliate has automatic or preferential access to the Foundation's grants, datasets, findings, personnel or brand.
- Sharing the Octopus name does not imply common ownership or authority; public statements identify the entity responsible.
- No sponsor or commercial affiliate may suppress or distort our findings for commercial reasons.
What the Foundation is not
- Not a software vendor or SaaS company.
- Not a commercial sales channel for any ecosystem product.
- Not a general AI research institute — our research is applied, proportionate and directly tied to our public-benefit mission.

We collect as little as possible, protect what we hold and treat people with respect.
Governance
The Foundation is being built on a written constitution and board-approved policies: an independent board, dedicated committees, related-party controls and research-integrity safeguards designed to keep public benefit first. The framework is in development and under legal review.
